What is NEHA?

The purpose of the New England Historical Association, regional affiliate of the American Historical Association, is to serve the interests of historians in New England and elsewhere, academic or non-academic.

NEHA provides a forum to:

  • Present and exchange ideas about research
  • Gain and share resources for the study and teaching of history
  • Learn about opportunities for the application of historical learning and historical practice
  • Maintain connections with the historical enterprise in its larger regional and national dimensions
  • Socialize with colleagues at similar institutions, in similar fields, and at similar career stages

The New England Historical Association welcomes contributions on all areas, epochs, and methods of historical inquiry, not just the history of New England or American history.

NEHA hosts two regional conferences annually, one in spring and one in the fall.  Conferences offer a supportive environment to improve and refine one’s scholarship. Participation by graduate students is encouraged.
